THE RACE
The Gran Fondo Delta cycling road race is a cycling event – a “Cycling for All” race and the participation of athletes with or without a race card aged 17 and over (2008 and before)
It is co-organized by “Misc+ Sport Media” and the Municipality of Alexandroupolis, on routes in the Regional Unit of Evros, with the permission and under the auspices of the Hellenic Cycling Federation, in accordance with the regulations of the Hellenic Cycling Federation (EOP) and of the UCI.
The race will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025 and is included in the competition program of the EOP.

THE ROUTE
The Route Gran Fondo (130 km): Alexandroupolis (Lighthouse) – Dimokratias – Eirinis Bridge (point 0) – Alexandroupolis / Kippoi – Feres – Pilaia – Loutros – Pefka – Nipsa – VIPE Alexandroupolis – Avas (ring road) – To Alexandroupolis (ring road) – Southern Parallel of Egnatia to Kirki – Kirki – Sykorahi – Avra – Alexandroupoli / Komotini National Road – Makri – Nea Chili – Dimokratias Rd. – Apoloniadas – Vas.Alexandrou Rd. – Lighthouse (Finish line).
PARTICIPATION IN COMPETITIONS (individual, team) – CATEGORIES
Athletes – athletes with or without a sports card, with the ability to participate in sports activities
The Gran Fondo Delta is a “Cycling for All” category race, as described by the UCI regulations, open to all cyclists participating in “age groups” as follows:
- Gran Fondo MEN : (17-18) (19-29) (30-34) (35-39) (40-44) (45-49) (50-54) (55-59) (60-64) (65+)
- Gran Fondo WOMEN: (19-39)(40+)
Athletes’ ages are calculated based on the calendar year of birth (12/31), not the date of birth. For an age group to be valid, a minimum of 6 cyclists or 4 female cyclists respectively for the women’s categories must be entered, otherwise consolidation will take place with the next largest and smallest age group.
TEAM: To form a team and be eligible for the Gran Fondo team rating, the cyclists must declare a common name (in the club/team field) and each team must consist of:
- at least one woman, regardless of age
- at least one man, regardless of age
- a cyclist in the 40+ age group
- a cyclist in the 50+ age group
SECRETARIAT HOURS – TECHNICAL CONFERENCE
The opening hours of the competition Secretariat for receiving the bib numbers and the participation package will be announced soon.
In order to receive the above package, it is mandatory to show the health card as long as it concerns athletes with a card or to submit a valid medical certificate of good health for competitive cycling with a date of issue no later than one (1) year before the date of the race, if when it comes to athletes of the Sportive category.

REGISTRATION – PARTICIPATION FEE
Registration will be done exclusively online, for all participants, through the participation form on the website www.granfondodelta.com.

Last date for registrations: Wednesday, April 30th, 2025
REGISTRATION COST
The participation fee is set at ninety (€90.00) for Early Bird until April 25th, 2025, and one hundred and twenty euros (€120.00) for 2nd Tier from April 26 to April 30th, 2025,
Each registration in the Gran Fondo Delta and Medio Fondo Delta ensures:
– Profesional timing,
– Feed zones on the route,
– Technical assistance from neutral service vehicles on the route,
– Medical – paramedical assistance en route,
– Commemorative finisher medal,
– Photo pack,
– Welcome gift bag and sponsor gifts,
– Cycling jersey.
The participation fee is paid online
The competitor’s name must appear in the registration form. Any bank fees due to money transfers from other banks are charged to the participants.
It is strongly recommended that the competitors make the deposit by April 30, 2025 at the latest, in order to have an updated start list and for the participation declarations to be considered valid.
Registrations and payments at the Race Secretariat will not be accepted.
RACE DETAILS - SPECIAL REGULATIONS
In general, the Competition Regulations of the Hellenic Cycling Federation and the special Regulations of the UCI apply, for “cycling for all” and one-day road races.
A start will be given for all categories of cyclists at the same time.
Nevertheless, if the number of participants so requires, the participants may be divided into groups and a difference of 30 seconds may be imposed.
-The use of a road bike is strictly recommended, however another type of bike (eg cyclo-cross, gravel etc.) can be used with the exception of time trial bikes, fixed, track, tandem or recumbent vehicles.
-It is mandatory to wear a helmet. Athletes who do not have a helmet cannot participate in the race and cannot start. Athletes who are not wearing a helmet during the race are disqualified by the organization officials and their race number is taken
-Traffic will be cut off before the road race starts.
-For the safety of the race and to clear the way, police and there will be vehicles and motorcycles belonging to the organization.
-To ensure the safety and fairness of the race and to avoid possible problems, only press and vehicles belonging to the organization will enter the race track.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
There will be at least four (4) service vehicles, with a mechanic and equipped with various wheels as well as water and fruit.
The neutral service vehicles will follow the race and always according to the instructions of the Race Director.
‣ One (1) vehicle will follow the lead of the race.
‣ One (1) vehicle will be in the tail of the race (vehicle – broom)
‣ Two (2) vehicles or more will follow cyclists, according to the instructions of the Race Director.
All vehicles will have a special marking “NEUTRAL RACE SUPPORT”.
Cycling clubs, which have more than 7 riders they can use their own escort vehicle for feeding and technical support of their athletes, after prior consultation with the organizer and as long as they place the relevant sticker.
Under no circumstances are they allowed to overtake the Race Director’s vehicle and they are not allowed to give directions to cyclists.
FEED ZONES
On the Gran Fondo route, there will be four (4) feed zones.
In any case there will be signage for each feed zone, as well as a warning sign 1 km before the feed zone.
In each feeding zone there will be water, isotonic drinks and fruit and / or other food such as energy bars, gels, etc.
In addition, there will be litter zones demarcated with signs. A cyclist who throws waste outside the demarcated zones will have a penalty, according to the Regulations and following a decision of the Race Committee.
TIME LIMITS
Each cyclist, to be considered to have completed the Gran Fondo and to be ranked, must have completed the race in 6-1/2 hours (time limit). The Competition Committee will periodically check the status of the match in relation to the time limit.
One (1) vehicle marked “END OF RACE” will be at the tail end of the event (“broom” vehicle), behind the last participant within the time limit.
Cyclists who are gradually left behind the main group of athletes of the race, continue on the route, at a pace of fast ride – training, fully respecting the road traffic code, at their own risk for their personal safety, and will show special attention in points that are required (descents, intersections, train lines, etc.)
The Gran Fondo Delta is a racing event, which takes place on a public road, (with the facilitation of the movement of cyclists regarding the racing track), and all participants must respect the Road traffic code, whether they move on the racing part of the Gran Fondo or on the non-racing part.
The movement of bicycles in the opposite flow of traffic is expressly prohibited, under penalty of disqualification from the race.
RACE MARKING
The entire length of the route will be marked with special signs. The marking will concern:
‣30 km from the start.
‣ 20, 10, 5, 3, 1 km, 500 m, 200 m from finish line,
‣ 1 km before each feed zone and litter zone,
‣ direction indicators at key points,
‣ indication of dangerous points with signs (intersections, descents, etc.) as well as with spray on the road surface (potholes, sinkholes, etc.).
In order for the vehicles involved in the race to be clearly visible to the participants and race staff, they will place special stickers on the windscreen.
A cyclist who receives help from an unauthorized vehicle will receive a penalty, according to the Regulations and following a decision of the Race Committee.
RANKINGS - AWARDS - PRIZES
‣General Individual Classification with a Trophy for the first three winners of Men and Women.
‣Classification by age category, and are formed by the end of participation declarations. The top three winners of each age group will advance to the podium for the cup.
‣ Team Ranking (the team that will have the right to participate, according to the conditions mentioned and will have the lowest sum of the positions of its 4 best athletes). The first winning team will receive a Cup.
‣Every cyclist who finishes within the time limit will receive a commemorative participation medal.
‣ Each Cycling club, which will participate with 10 or more cyclists in total, will receive a commemorative prize in recognition of participation.
AWARDS CEREMONY
The awards will be held at the L. Alexandrou Park, at the Alexandroupoli Lighthouse at 2:30 p.m.
For age groups in which the awards podium has not been completed, the award ceremony will take place immediately upon the finish of the top three of the age group.
The winning cyclists will arrive in their racing uniform (minimum team shirt) and without bikes.
DOPPING CONTROL
In the event that the National Anti-Doping Organization decides on controls, there will be information for those involved, in accordance with the regulations of the EEA and the UCI.
PENALTIES
In the race, the penalties mentioned in the regulations of the EEA and, where not provided, of the UCI will be applied.

By participating in the race, the cyclist accepts the content and conditions of this competition announcement. All participants in the Race in any form (athletes, coaches, attendants, spectators and all those involved in the event), accept such as their personal information, the results of games with their performances, photos, videos, to be given to the press, social media, and processed by the organizing group and the co-organizers.
Competitors participate in the race at their own risk and the organizer has no liability for any possible accident as well as damage or loss of competition equipment, clothing, etc.
